AR Business Card for FutureKind

The challenge

Technology used to be scary. And expensive, but all that is a thing of the past. The future of technology is accessible. In just two days, we created this digital avatar and we kept the physical, old school, business card as our playground. The printed QR code is a gate to limitless digital creativity. How would you make your avatar stand out?

Business Card of the Future

Users can scan the AR code on the back of the business card to unlock the business card of the future. When they place the card on a flat surface, they can see an avatar swiping through some words. We'll walk you through how we did it.‍

3D model

The first step in our process was to create a 3D model of our client. We wanted to keep everything as accessible and low effort as possible: no shooting days in a green key studio with expensive cameras and other hardware. To create her 3D model, we didn't even meet up in person.

We asked her to make a scan of herself using Polycam. Within a few minutes we had an almost perfect 3D model of the person we could then import into Blender and touch up where needed.

Putting it all together

Rigging - We wanted to be in full control of the 3D model so we made a complete rig out of it. The arms, legs, head and other body parts can move separately, giving us endless options.

Three.js - Now it is time to apply some cool visual effects and play with shaders, lighting, particles and so on.

Design - Almost there. Time to design the business cards. These are the physical cards that were handed out.

8th Wall - Final step! Integrate everything into 8th Wall to create a cool web based, augmented reality experience... And enjoy.
