We are looking for an AI engineer for our team in Leuven. Somewhere out there, a client is about to ask whether we can't just put an agent on it. You're the one who listens carefully, asks the right questions, and then either builds an agentic system or recommends a different approach when that fits the problem better. Either way, you see it through from the first conversation to the day it runs in production. That covers the agent logic, the Python backend, the data model and, where it helps, the interface.Along the way you join workshops, explain in plain language what an agent can and can't do, and present the result to the client. You also work with coding agents every day, which means you review a lot of code written by something very confident that is occasionally wrong. You know a good pull request when you see one, and you're not afraid to send the other kind back.Summarized: you build agents that work, you say so when one isn't needed, and you can explain both to a client.

Job requirements

• 3+ years of relevant experience
• Hands-on experience building agents in code
• Solid knowledge of tool calling, multi-agent orchestration, retrieval and human-in-the-loop
• Experience evaluating agent output with traces and regression suites, and a good sense of cost and latency
• You know when an agent is not the right answer, and you can go from a problem to a fitting agentic architecture
• You write and iterate on prompts with care as part of building an agent
• You have a knack for turning a vague client question into something buildable
• You use coding agents as a matter of course, and you can judge a model's output and reject it when needed
• You're proficient in both Dutch and English

Technical experience

Here's what we work with. Experience with these specific technologies is great, but we equally value relevant experience with similar tools and frameworks.

• Backend development in Python and FastAPI
• Experience designing data models

Bonus points if you have

• Taken an agentic project all the way to production
• Experience monitoring agents and fixing what goes wrong over time: prompt drift, wrong tool usage, context bloat and silent degradation (the kind of problem that never throws an error)
• Frontend experience with React or Next.js
• Deployment experience, preferably on the Azure stack
• Experience with voice systems
